Newsletter - President's message - Winter13

Dear colleagues,
20130318 lcarriereW ell, here I am again. I thought that things would move along faster than they are moving. But what can I say? In the end, I decided not to wait for the results of the selection process and to take the required steps to retire from the federal public service once and for all. My departure date is March 15, 2013. I attended my last CS Group executive meeting as your President on that day. Vice-President Stan Buday will take over until the next election, which will be held this summer. I am certain that Stan will provide the leadership needed for the orderly process of the Group's business. Stan has been on the National Executive for about 12 years and has all the expertise required to fill this role. He is familiar with the issues we will be facing in coming months. However, I will be available to assist as best I can to ensure the smoothest transition possible.

In fact, I am not going far. I have secured the position of Mobilizer at the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada. Therefore, I will again have the privilege and pleasure of working with every one of you in mobilizing our groups and enhancing the development of our great organization. The future holds some considerable challenges for all unions in Canada. With amendments to the labour laws by this hostile government, we will have a lot on our plate. We will have to join forces with other unions to protect the decades of gains we have made. That is where I will play a vital role, and I am confident that I will be able to count on the support of each and every one of you in order to succeed.

Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for the trust you have placed in me over these many years and I am delighted to be able to remain part of this big family in another capacity.

Yours truly,
Luc Carrière
CS Group President
