Vacation Carry Over For all CS members

As the end of fiscal year 2015–2016 draws near, I wish to remind you that all annual leave credits exceeding two hundred and sixty-two decimal five (262.5) hours or thirty-five (35) days, which have not been used before March 31, 2016, may automatically be paid-out in accordance with Article 15.07.

Vacation leave exceeding the limit allowed must be used before the end of the fiscal year and leave should not be scheduled for dates after March 31, 2016.

Carry-Over and/or Liquidation of Vacation Leave

15.07 Where in any vacation year all of the vacation leave credited to an employee has not been scheduled, upon request, the employee may carry-over into the following vacation year up to a maximum of two hundred sixty-two point five (262.5) hours credits. All vacation leave credits in excess of two hundred sixty-two point five (262.5) hours will be paid in cash at the employee's hourly rate of pay as calculated from the classification prescribed in his certificate of appointment of his substantive position on the last day of the vacation year.

According to article 15.07 of the CS collective agreement, an employee MAY CARRY OVER vacation leave credits in the following year, UPON REQUEST, up to a maximum of 262.5 hours. Note that the unused, one-time vacation leave credit is included in the liquidation of the vacation leave calculation.

Personal and Volunteer Days For All CS Members.

I would also like to remind you that the leave earned under the Volunteer (17.17) and Personal (17.18) Leave articles are not eligible for carryover and must be used during the year in which they are earned.

If you are considering using either your Personal or Volunteer day, be sure to do so before March 31, 2016.
